Ringing in the Holiday Season at Austin Heights BIA HollyDaze in the Heights

We have to say, the Coquitlam community really knows how to kick off the holiday season! Staff members of our Bettie Allard YMCA enjoyed participating in last month's Austin Heights BIA HollyDaze in the Heights event. It was wonderful to meet and connect with many families and residents of the Tri-Cities. The community building that took place that night was memorable and we look forward to being a part of many more events in the future. Below are a few moments we captured from the fun-filled evening and if there are any upcoming events on your radar where the YMCA should attend, please let our team know at BettieAllard@gv.ymca.ca.

We are excited to bring the Bettie Allard YMCA to your community and provide you with welcoming, safe and inclusive spaces to enjoy our many programs and services.

The Bettie Allard YMCA will be open 364 days a year with the following amenities and services available for members to enjoy:

  • Health and Fitness: There are so many supported and self-directed ways to get moving to look forward to at this best-in-class YMCA. Including a gymnasium, walking track, fitness studios for group classes and strength and conditioning zones
  • Aquatics: Learn critical water safety skills, exercise and have fun! Features include an accessible swimming pool and a warm water tank for family play, swim lessons, therapy and fitness

  • Social Connections: The YMCA features many places to make connections with long-time neighbours or new friends, including a café, plazas and rooftop terraces

  • Family-Focus: We’re so excited to bring Coquitlam residents our dedicated Family Centre and ‘Y Play’ area to play, learn and connect

One of the many amazing Health and Fitness programs that will be offered at the new Bettie Allard YMCA is the YMCA Healthy Heart program.

This long-standing program is a community-based cardiac prevention, rehabilitation, and maintenance program that supports people living with cardiac risk through education and supervised exercise.

It helps participants manage chronic diseases, including congestive heart failure, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, while preventing cardiovascular disease and future risk factors. With the help of the program, participants transition back to active living after open heart surgery, heart attack, and stents.

As a community-based program, participants benefit from a supportive social environment that reduces feelings of isolation, anxiety, and depression. They also receive expert support and education from certified program staff, nutrition counselling from a Registered Dietitian, and medically managed exercise classes.

We are thrilled to expand this impactful program in the Coquitlam area to reach more individuals who will benefit from it!
